Went for durian cakes at Goodwood Park Hotel for the first time! So yummy. I haven’t had durian in ages, and contrary to what people say about either loving or hating durians, I’m pretty ambivalent towards the fruit. I’ve never felt any particular craving to eat it. But these cakes (also crepes, puffs and tartlets) were good. And so filling. Just a few bites from each and that was lunch, and tea.
We were seated prominently next to the corridor, and our little spread of treats must have been too eye-catching to resist. More than a few passers-by had their eyes glued to our plates. Hehehe.
Now I need herbal tea. Or mangosteens.
- I don’t understand why some people say durian smells like cat shit. What does cat shit smell like anyway??
First attempt was Indian style Kheer, which was waaay too sweet for my tastes and well.. don’t use brown rice. Version 2 is Turkish style Firin Sutlac. The one from here is my benchmark. Mine tasted pretty good but something is amiss. Critics say that the custard:rice ratio is not right. I personally think the custard is a bit thick. Hmmn. Well only one way to work it out…
